Jason's first bird

Jason Zank my new son inlaw, just shot his first turkey tonight. 20.31lbs, 10" beard, and 1 1/8th spurs. Talk about excited, he was still shaking when I went back to meet him after the hunt. It's good to see the excitment on a new turkey hunter face when they get their first bird. He said he's hooked!

Cpl liberty defense

My wife and I attended the cpl class with liberty defense training team. It was great. Very well done. I would recommend them to anyone. They did very good with the women in the class. My wife who is a novice shooter at best learned alot and is now shooting way better than me. Awesome day with my wife! It is a very good feeling knowing that she is more confident with the guns in the house and would be able to use one if needed. So any intruders beware she is locked and loaded.

3.5 acres sprayed

Phew, I'm beat. I had bought a quad and a sprayer but the quad is broke... So I got a 4 gallon backpack sprayer. It took me about 8 hours to spray the 3.5ish acres (26 gallons)... The field was in beans least year so it wasn't terrible. I don't have a water source though so I was using it from the neighbors who thankfully let me haul a 5 gallon bucket at a time...

I used
4oz/gal of Gly
2 oz/gal of 2-4D
1oz/gal of Surfactant (wasn't sure if this was right...)

Glad to have that done! Soon I'll be putting in Ed Spins Cover/Forage mix, Ultimate Blend and then putting Egyptian Wheat around all of the food plots to separate and screen them all individually. My white clover plot is looking ok, my cover crop of medium red clover is doing really well. I can't wait to see the EW box them all in and seclude everything. That will be in the midst of my future permanent screens of Norways and Speckled Alders.

This is hard work but I'm sure it will be worth it. Very satisfying...

fuel issue?

just had my carb rebuilt at a local shop a month ago added new plugs/fuel filter, and my issue is back!

I have a 90 hp merc 2001/jet drive and i can get the boat up on plane for about 30 seconds, then the motor starts to bog down. It never stalls just bogs down. If i push the key in and out on the control box ( which is my choke control) when it bogs down, i can keep it up on plane but still looses some power. If i back the throtle down to idle and wait about 10 seconds i can pop it back to plane and then it does the same thing again. Not sure what more i can do myself to avoid the $$$ of the boat shop.

I will add that prior to bring it into the boat shop i did try pumping the fuel bulb while in operation, and pushing the key in and out but that didn't seem to correct anything.

As Old Sparky used to say....What are yours?.....Mine are....The Tigers need to be more consistent, obviously. 1-5 in the batting order will be fine. Everyone else needs to pick it up. Hopefully Avilla. Peralta & Boesch have not reached their ceiling. Verlander and Fister are studs the rest of the starters is = who knows. Porcello & Scherzer seemed to regress. Smyley is a rookie and the bullpen has been bad at best. Villereal has some promise. Marte is coming back as is Al Al, who knows what they might provide, Benoit has been okay, Valverde so-so, they should win the division based on the competition but I do remember 2008. Bottom line is I think they get it together, make some trade deadline deals and make the post season and from there it is a coin flip from who advances. If not, and they finish less than 2nd place I predict Leyland gets fired and the Tigers hire Francona for 2013.

drumming log

I set up a trail cam on a active drumming log for a week. I got 600 some pics half of which contained a grouse. Some of the data collected about what goes on was very interesting. The time and date on the trail came is correct and it is very suprising the odd times he visits his log and other times how regularly he show up (5:45)

Thunder Bay DNR launch - Bring a pen or get a ticket

Heads up!!!!

I launced out of the DNR Thunder Bay launch today. Got there and there were no pencils at the payment box. Usually, I have a pen or pencil in the truck, so it's generally no issue. Pretty common to find an DNR box with nothing to write with there. Well, today I had no pen or pencil in the truck. Since I drove 50 miles to fish, I put my money in the envelope, took the receipt tag, and went fishing. Came back to a ticket on my vehicle from the Alpena PD for failure to pay the launch fee, which is a violation of a local ordinance. BUT, I paid my fee. There was a notation on the bottom with an asterisk that noted "failure to fill out form"?????? NOWHERE does any sign say that you are required to fill it out, just to pay the money.

Luckily, I saw a police car driving around in the marina next door and hi-tailed it over to him to confront him about the ticket. Yep, that was the officer who wrote the ticket. He explained that there is a rash of people just putting the receipt portion on their dash without paying and they have no access to the DNR box to verify payment. I can see his point. BUT, it doesn't even matter if you fill it out. You can still put the filled out receipt on your dash without dropping a payment in the box. After I told him I took pictures of all the signs and the payment station with no writing instruments, he took my info and said he would verify payment with the DNR and void the ticket if payment was verified. Excuse my language, but what is this bull-bleep? You just ASSUME payment wasn't made with no way of verifying, then expect the person to go to court to prove themselves innocent? I'm sorry, but our country and court system doesn't work that way!!!!!!!!!!!!! Innocent until proven guilty, not guilty until proven innocent. If I wouldn't have found that officer, I would have had to take a day to go to court, show my pictures, plead my case, and hope for a judge that isn't crooked. Nice system there!!!

My Mother has been battling leukemia (AML) since December. She had to undergo a 2nd bone marrow transplant last Tuesday and by Tuesday night was in septic shock due to a bacterial infection. She has been in the MICU of DMC since. The infection did a real number and with no immune system at the moment it's been a rocky week. She is in acute renal (kidney) failure and they are going to insert the dialysis catheter in an hour or so. Her chances of coming out of this are very slim.

The hope is that the dialysis will be able to take care of what her kidneys and liver are failing to do and allow us time to see if her new marrow will graph and the staph infection can be resolved.

She is currently on a respirator and is more or less out of it due to everything going on in her body.

She's only 64... We lost my father to Kindney Cancer 2 years ago tomorrow.

May isn't turning into one of my favorite months.

We pray that by the grace of god she can be one of the statistical out layers and beat the odds... Every prayer helps.

DNR launch fees - No pen get a ticket?

I realize this is an Alpena police dept issue, but I want to get the take of it from the DNR, who actually collect the fees.

Soooooooo, what is the actual DNR requirement and officers stance for paying the launch fee? Does any statute state the form MUST be filled out? All of it? Or what? Generally, I just put my vehicle plate number and the time I launch(for safety reasons). Am I a habitual offender?

Shouldn't this be more of a DNR issue where a DNR officer issues the ticket or refers it to Alpena, rather than Alpena taking the presumption of guilt?

If Alpena really wants, I'll take my money I spend in town there up to Rogers city!

Not sure of the difference. Looking at a graduation gift, kid likes coins. If you were to buy a set of coins would you get the proof or mint set?

Spinning or baitcaster

I'm going to be casting to smallie beds with a small split shot and leach. I have never used a baitcaster but was thinking of purchasing one. Will a baitcaster work with a light bait like a leach? With the exception of a cheap spinning real everything I have anymore is for trolling.

setup in 40 fow after marking bait just outside the arms..trolled that area with only 1 hit and set out for deeper water..trolled nw to the 18s..ended 12 for 14 best water was 130-140..had a few hits on chrome style spinnies but spoon bite outshined by far this trip..seemed we ended up with a much better spoon bite over fly bite in holland last week also..
