Now that March Madness is in full swing, trying to jugle shallow water walleye and perch fishing in addition to populating the fly box in time for the opener. I thought I would take a break and post some pics of a few flies that I tied. This is the first fly that I tied for each of these patterns and critiques are more than welcome. I dyed the green biots in the first fly using feathers from geese that were shot last season. The Hares Ear was tied from hares dubbing and not from hares mask.

what guage copper wire did you use on the hares ear? Maybe it's just the shot, wire looks thick. Looks good!

I've got most of my dry's done and bunch of different nympth's and streamers. Still waiting on a order of materials to finish up everything but I will be ready come opener! I got a new 5"6 3wt boo rod and a 6'6 3wt graphite that need to be broken in!

Those will fish...

proportions look pretty good on your hares ear and pheasant tail... Tail and wings look a little long on the prince. It sometimes helps to have one with the right proportions in hand to refer to while tying.

Also when tying beadheads... try crowding the bead a little more with the materials and use a few less thread wraps. You will have a less noticeable void between bead and bug. Something else you could do is spin a small pinch of dub on the thread, after you pull the wing case over or tie wings on, and give a couple wraps right tight to the bead. Then pull your whip finish under the dub... gives it a better finished look.

Thank you. I'll tie up a couple more tonight using these tips in mind. I appreciate the help and easily noticed the voids after reading your reply. Ive since added a pair of angled tweezers that I use for working with those micro parts on my model train layout. This tool should help me to hold the wings in place better and get them where I want without my fingers getting in the way.
