Who do you buy from most?

I need a few things, but can't find a one stop shop online.

It kinda depends on what you want, and the quality of what you want. For basic type items, my father-in-law has used Barlow's:
http://www.barlowstackle.com/

I've bought from J.Stockard:
http://www.jsflyfishing.com/

And I can find some good deals on occasion over at Sierra's Trading Post:
http://www.sierratradingpost.com/

I'm not good enough to pick through things to find the best quality, but going to the Fly Fishing Expo I've picked up a few tips. For example, a tyer at the show once said a 5-year-old doe will produce really good deer hair. So, buying online could be a gamble if you are looking for a very specific item with a certain quality.

If you sign up for emails from J. Stockard you will get discounts on certain items monthly. Sometimes it's what you need and sometimes not but a few bucks helps out. Don't forget your local shops. Even if you have a favorite out of town you may want to see if they have internet ordering or take credit over the phone to mail you what you need. I'd hate to see your favorite shop closed down then next time you are near and need them.

I've been ordering from J. Stockards for years and never had an issue.

If they don't have what you want in stock, they'll backorder the item and ship it to you for free when they get it in.

Great selection and customer service.

Don't forget your local stores. Many of them will take orders over the phone and ship the same day if possible. Prices are very competitive.

Many of them are great, consistent content contributors to this site and others as well the local communiites they serve. I'm sure they'd appreciate the chance to earn your business.

Baldwin Bait & Tackle - BBT - comes to mind.

Default Online fly shops

I also order from J. Stockard. Top notch.

Also, there is a local guy (local to me anyhow) named Derek Leroy in Canton who runs a fly shop out of his house. He can get you pretty much whatever you want and his prices are reasonable.

I typically try to buy my supplies locally or while on a fishing trip also... but sometimes you have to just order elsewhere.

I usually don't buy deer hair or hackle unless i can see it... but there are some exceptions...

Chris Helm of http://www.whitetailflytieing.com/

Dave Hise of http://www.castersflyshop.com/

Just tell either of these guys what you wanna tie and rest assured they will send you the proper stuff.

Another place I have ordered (besides some of the places already mentioned) that has some great prices and unique stuff... just don't be in a big hurry to get it...

Mad Scientist of http://www.flytyersdungeon.com/

Hey uptracker... I'm curious to see what ya plan on tying with the easy bug... I have some and haven't found a use for it really. Care to share the pattern?

No local shops here....it's the U.P. I can't get any good hunting and fishing related stuff here....maybe a gun. All my steelheading gear, bowhunting gear, technical fishing gear etc. comes from downstate trips or the internet.

It's John's Wiggle Hex from BBT. It's on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/results?searc...rch_type=&aq=f

By June, I want to tie some Clouser's or Deceivers similar to what you sent me last year.

We buy the majority of our materials from fly shops in the Grayling area. When they don't have what we need we will purchase from Cabelas (using or obtaining Cabela points), Helms (for most of our hair purchases), Bears Den for some oddities such as translucent thread from making furled leaders and such, & J. Stockard. We also have used Hook and Hackle a few times but not as regularly as the others.

Mad River Outfitters in Columbus. The best online store that I have found. Brian and Ben do a great job. I make almost all my orders from them (my orders usually reach me a day after being shipped).

Caster Fly Shop is the other one that I use on occasion, Dave is a great guy (he used to run the orvis store in Grand Rapids).
