By chance does anyone have an old vice they would like to get rid of? If not any recommendations on which vice I should research?

Thanks for any help/info,

Hully

For a starter vice I'd say look at a thompson. I'm still using mine 25 years later with no problems.

If you are tying streamers then you can just get one of the cheaper clamp ons. No need for tiny jaws for small hooks or a rotary since you won't be doing much palmering. And the palmering you end up doing will be large (rabbit strips and large hackle) that won't require a ton of precision.

Caution: if you are just getting into tying and enjoy it you will end up tying small stuff later. If that's the case you will have plenty of time to research what is best for you.

Thumbs Up New vise

If I were you I would get a rotary vise. They are a lot easier to tie Wolly buggers with because you have to palmer the hackle from the tail to the head.
I would recommend a Renzetti,Peak, or Barracuda. I have a Renzetti and have used it for 35 years. They aren't cheap but they are the best you can get.
Welcome to the world of fly tying......
